Our Boeing 767 CF6 General Familiarization course meets ATA 104 Specification Level I: General Familiarization, providing a comprehensive overview of the airframe, systems, and powerplant as outlined in the Systems Description Section of the Aircraft Maintenance Manual.

This course also aligns with EASA’s Level 1 knowledge definition, as outlined in Regulation EU No. 1321/2014, Part 66, Appendix III. It aims to familiarize students with the key elements of the aircraft, ensuring that they: (a) understand the basic elements of the subject; (b) can describe the subject using simple terminology; and (c) can effectively utilize typical terms in system descriptions.

This self-study online course requires approximately 40 hours of study. Students must pass a quiz at the end of each ATA chapter before advancing to the next chapter. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion.

Course objectives: Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Identify safety precautions related to the airframe, systems, and powerplant.
  • Recognize key maintenance practices.
  • Understand the general layout of the aircraft’s major systems.
  • Define the characteristics of the powerplant.
  • Identify special tooling and test equipment used with the aircraft.

Study time

We estimate that approximately 40 hours will be needed for course completion. Students have 6 months to complete the course, with progress saved. After completion, an additional 90 days is available for review.

  • ATA 21: Air conditioning, distribution, flight compartment air distribution, passenger cabin conditioned air, recirculation system, ventilation system, equipment cooling system, pressurization control, heating, cooling, temperature control, ozone control, and humidity control.
  • ATA 22: Autoflight—digital flight control system, yaw damper system, and autothrottle system.
  • ATA 23: Communications, including speech communication, HF and VHF systems, emergency locator transmitter, Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), SELCAL system, passenger address system, passenger entertainment system, cabin video information system, service interphone system, flight and ground crew call system, and static discharger.
  • ATA 24: Electrical power—generator drive, AC and DC generation systems, standby power system, external power, and AC electrical load distribution.
  • ATA 25: Equipment and furnishings—cabin accommodations, flight compartment equipment, passenger compartment, seats, service units, galleys, lavatories, and cargo compartments.
  • ATA 26: Fire protection, including engine fire detection, lavatory smoke detection, and APU fire detection system.
  • ATA 27: Flight controls, detailing primary and secondary flight control systems.
  • ATA 28: Fuel systems—fuel storage, pressure refueling, engine fuel feed, APU fuel feed, and fuel indicating systems.
  • ATA 29: Hydraulic power, covering hydraulic systems and their operation.
  • ATA 30: Ice and rain protection systems.
  • ATA 31: Flight data recorder system, including clocks and aural warning systems.
  • ATA 32: Landing gear—main and nose gear, extension and retraction systems.
  • ATA 33: Lights—flight compartment, passenger compartment, emergency, and exterior lighting systems.
  • ATA 34: Navigation systems, including the Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS), GPS, and traffic collision avoidance systems.
  • ATA 35: Oxygen systems for crew and passengers.
